GrapheneOS and Samsung Galaxy Watch: It Was Hell but Works

I recently decided to give CopperHead a try on another device and am still working on that post, but for now I wanted to talk about using GrapheneOS and the shitshow it was trying to get things like payment methods and such working for my Samsung Galaxy Watch, which I got for nothing [Friend was moving to Apple from Android].

The first issue that happened was the fact that I had to pair the device with an unsecured Android device so I could use Google Wallet to add my payment methods. Now, when I call it unsecure, it’s not because it wasn’t up-to-date, but rather because the device had no mitigations for Google Services.

After I added the cards, the second issue was the fact that, for some reason, the default browser in GrapheneOS called Vanadium wouldn’t work for signing into a Samsung account, which was required when moving between two devices.

Thankfully, I was able to get it working in FireFox Mobile.

The primary goal for the watch will be to have something stylish [compared to the fitness tracker I use], along with more screen real estate for things like the EVE Online companion app I am currently working on.

After getting it fully setup, I am expecting a case and screen protector. So far, I’ve just configured it and had to deal with sending a custom watchface I created to the device with my Emblem on it, along with New York Time and Eve Online Server Time [GMT].
